Petunia's Little Babies
My sweet and spicy girl is something else. We were in the car yesterday when Petunia brings up the topic of how we became a family. (Come to think of it, we're often in the car when we talk about this. I suppose it's just because she's sitting still, which seldom happens at home.) I told her how happy I am that I traveled to Vietnam, adopted her, and became her mom. She was quiet for a minute and then the conversation continued...
P: Mom, I know I didn't grow in your tummy.
M: No, you didn't.
P: I grew in another lady's tummy... in Vietnam. But you're my forever mom. Right?
M: That's right. Forever.
P: When I grow up, I want to be a forever mommy, too. I want to adopt a little baby who grows in another lady's tummy.
M: Well, then I hope you do just that.
P: Mom, let me tell you something.
M: Okay...
P: I might want one to grow in my tummy, too. Maybe a baby that grows in my tummy and a baby who grows in another lady's tummy.
M: That sounds like a plan to me. Maybe you should do that.
P: Maybe... but, Mom?
M: Hmm?
P: They would still be my kids, right?
M: Of course they would be your kids.
P: It just doesn't matter how I borns my little babies.
M: *trying to speak around the lump in my throat* No, honey, it just doesn't matter.
P. Okay. Mom, I need to ask you something. When is the sun going to come out so we can play outside? All it does is rain, rain, rain.
I love her to pieces!
